Things You Should Know Before Choosing a Dance Studio
There are plenty of wonderful dance studios in Baton Rouge and neighboring areas. Many of these studios specialize in different services, thus it is good to think about what will fit your needs best. TC Dance Club International is a dance studio in Baton Rouge that specializes in adult ballroom dancing.
1. What does a package of lessons include?
It is important to know how a dance studio differentiates between taking a private vs. group lesson.
Definition:
- Private lessons are one-on-one (or two for couples) instruction where you get individualized attention. You will progress much faster as an instructor can tailor to your needs.
- Group Lessons, depending on the studio, can be anywhere from 3 people to 40+ people with one or two instructors. Groups can be a fun way to meet new people, practice, and learn. Learning can just take some more time.
- At TC Dance Club, we keep our groups small, anywhere from 3-12 people about.
Asking studios what’s included in each package is very important to compare pricing. Does the package include both privates and groups? Are they priced differently?
TC Dance Club specialized in private lessons, so you are only paying for the number of private lessons included in your package. Group classes are offered every night of the week at 7:15 pm and are included as an added benefit you can utilize in addition to private lessons.
2. What forms of dance education are offered?
As stated earlier, clubs can offer a variety of lesson types. While private lessons are the fastest and most effective way to learn to dance, a quality studio should offer a variety of options for different learners. Group classes offer the student a chance to practice and improve in a group setting, making them the perfect add on to private lessons.
You should also look for a studio which offers frequent opportunities to utilize what you are learning. Without practice, especially in the beginning, you will find it difficult to retain what you have learned.
Besides, you are learning to dance because it’s fun, right? The more you use your dancing, the better you will become, and the more fun it will be! Practice parties can be great opportunities where students can come and dance in a safe and supportive environment.

3. What type of floor is used?
Dance is a very physical activity that can put stress on the joints if you are not dancing on the right surface. Dancing long term on a tile or concrete floor can cause discomfort while dancing. The best surface for ballroom dancing is a professional “floating floor“ with a wood surface.
This type of dance floor is suspended and/or cushioned so that it is sprung; it has give to it. This will place less stress on your joints, and will feel smoother to dance on.
Our dance studio has two ballrooms with specialty floating wooden dance floors.

4. Does the studio have regular open hours?
Most professional dance studios have specified hours of business. This is very useful to you as a customer, as you will know when someone is available for assistance or to answer any questions you may have.
Some studios are not able to accommodate a wide variety of hours so it is important to know what times you will be free to attend lessons. Some studios will be open mornings, and some will be open nights. As TC Dance Club Baton Rouge is a dance studio for adults, we understand that evening hours can be great for 9-5 workers.
TC Dance Club’s regular hours of business are always:
Monday – Friday from 1:00 pm – 9:30 pm
Any holidays that are taken off will be explicitly stated in our monthly calendars.
